South Molton is pretty market town with a population of around 5,000 people. With its town square a hive of activity, surrounded by small local shops, it retains a very traditional market town feel.

There are many buildings of interest in the town and an insight into the history of these Medieval, Georgian and Elizabethan buildings and the town itself can be found in the Heritage Trail which guides you around the town showing you glimpses of past and present and a wealth of interesting information.

Things to do

The historical town features a delightful award-winning museum. The Museum is located on the ground floor of the town’s 18th century Guildhall, which was completed in 1743 and is situated on the town square. Collections reflecting the life and times of this historic market town and the surrounding district include local archaeological finds, agricultural implements, items of domestic interest, textiles, documents, maps, toys, and much else besides.

In South Molton there are many dog friendly places to visit and plenty of long walks and short strolls walks for dogs and their owners to enjoy! The tourist information centre can help with information about the Two Moors Way and South West Coast Path. The walks on Exmoor are especially popular with stunning scenery and the wildlife including the Exmoor ponies, the wild red deer and the buzzard hawks circling above.
